- The green glazed pig bank was made by award winning ceramicist Irene Alejos Orozco.
- She is from the town of San Jose de Gracia, Michoacan de Ocampo, Mexico.
- This is a new twist on the handmade pig. She added red pins to the ceramic pig.
- Each pin was added one by one. This was very time consuming, taking two months to make.
- First the pig is molded, then before it is put into the kiln, Irene makes the holes onto the pig. Afterwards each pin is added to the holes.
- The type of gazing is called "Barro Vidrialo.Ceramic glaze is an impervious layer or coating of a vitreous substance which has been fused to a ceramic body through firing. Glaze can serve to color, decorate or waterproof an item. Glazing renders earthenware vessels suitable for holding liquids, sealing the inherent porosity of unglazed biscuit earthenware
- Irene was one of the few artisans selected to attend el Premio Nacional de la Ceramica, or The National Ceramic Awards in Tlaquepaque, Mexico.
