  • This exceptional collectible folk art piece was made in Mexico by Moises Rodriguez B.
  • His work shop is located in Tonala, Mexico.

  • As one 5 of Salvador Vasquez' apprentices, Moises learned the technique of Barro Bruñido from one of the “Great Masters”.
  • He continues to combine his work with ceramic and wood.

  • He has become very interested in preserving some of Tonalá’s figurative work from the early 1920s and often uses depictions of some of these wonderfully naïve characters and village scenes in his work.

  • The gorgeous colorful round ceramic platter is hand painted with "Our Lady of Health" or "Virgen De Salud".
  • The Madonna is known for miraculous cures.
  • Please note the beautiful details on the platter. The Virgin is hand made and hand painted.

  • The sanctuary's history begins in 1543 when Father Miguel de Bologna, a Spanish priest, brought a statue of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception to the village. The town was then called San Juan Mezquititlan Baptist, but its name was changed to San Juan de Los Lagos in 1623.

  • The statue began to be venerated by an increasing number of pilgrims including Indigenous people, Spanish and mestizos.
  • During this period the statue acquired its own local identity as Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos. Between the early 17th century and the middle of the 19th century, a pilgrimage fair was held each year on November 30 to celebrate the original installation of the statue in the
  • shrine.

  • What a wonderful gift for yourself, as a gift for someone special or for your office.

  • We will make sure it is extremely well packed and insured.
